Fractional Resurfacing

Everyone wants to reverse the effects of aging on the skin. For patients who want a truly dramatic response fractional resurfacing is the way to go. It lifts away years from your face by stimulating the growth of new collagen. This modern laser therapy gives the skin a youthful and refreshed look with a glow that simply can’t be achieved with milder treatments. Despite its dramatic effects on skin damage, fractional resurfacing is comfortable and affordable, involves little downtime and is quick to perform.

Specifically, fractional resurfacing improves your skin's texture and tone to fight fine lines, wrinkles, and even acne scars. It has the following effects:

» Clears sun-damaged skin

» Smoothes fine lines and wrinkles

» Shrinks the appearance of pores

» Fills in acne scars

» Blends uneven pigmentation

New Collagen GrowthThe source of its efficacy lies in its ability to stimulate new collagen growth in damaged skin. The procedure treats the skin with multiple pin sized laser beams that penetrate the skin in a grid-like pattern. These narrow areas of laser heating are separated from each other by relatively large distances so that only approximately 20% of the skin is actually treated at any one session. Those areas that are affected by the laser light stimulate regrowth of collagen from the surrounding unaffected skin. As collagen remodels, the skin tightens and scars improve.

In general a course of treatments separated from each other by four to six weeks is required. The treatment generally takes 30 minutes but can vary from patient to patient. The experience of pain differs for different people but most patients experience only a mild discomfort during the treatment. After fractional resurfacing the immediate visual effect is similar to that of a sunburn, with some redness of the skin. Depending on how you feel about this redness you may or may not want to stay home for a day or two. Some stinging usually occurs and is generally treated easily with mild topical creams or lotions. All skin types can be treated. The effects of a course of therapy are not permanent and touch-ups are required to maintain results.
