Radiesse

Dermal Fillers — Radiesse®

Radiesse® is one of a number of so-called dermal fillers. These are medications that are injected into the face in areas where wrinkles are present and are also injected in the lip to give a fuller look. They fill up these areas, make them plumper and flatten out wrinkles, giving a smoother and more youthful appearance. This is a completely different mechanism than that of Botox® which works by relaxing muscles that cause wrinkling. Radiesse’s® chemical composition differs from that of Restylane® and Juvéderm®. It is a long lasting product with 100% of patients in one clinical study still showing clinical effects one year after treatment. Radiesse® works well in conjunction with several of the other advanced therapies that are available at Vivesse. During your initial consultation we will develop a customized treatment plan that will address the problems that concern you.

What exactly is Radiesse® and is it safe?

Radiesse® is made of spheres of calcium hydroxylapatite. This is a natural substance that already exists in the human body. Initially, when injected this gel-like substance acts as a filler but over time it stimulates collagen formation in the skin. Though the gel is absorbed over time, the new collagen formation is long-lasting. This effect accounts for the long duration of response to Radiesse®. Clinical studies have shown that Radiesse® is remarkably well tolerated. There are minimal chances of allergic reactions to this substance, a problem that is occasionally seen with other fillers. In fact, systemic reactions are very rare, though local reactions are seen.

The Radiesse® Injection Procedure

When you come to Vivesse we will review in detail the areas that concern you. After deciding on the appropriate sites for treatment the area will be anesthetized. We will then inject the Radiesse® into the chosen location with an ultra-fine needle. This procedure causes minimal discomfort. The results are immediate and you can resume your normal activities with no downtime. However, there may be some redness or swelling after treatment. This will normally last less than seven days. Sunbathing, strenuous exercise and alcohol should be avoided for 24 hours and thereafter until any redness or swelling disappears.

How long does the effect last?

Radiesse® results are truly long lasting with virtually all patients showing Radiesse® effects 12 months after treatment. Of course, responses vary from patient to patient. It is important that you understand that repeat treatments will be necessary.
