Acne Scars

You're over the acne
but you're still left with
the scars

You wake up one morning, look at your face in the mirror, and can’t believe the size and redness of those pimples. How did all that happen so suddenly?

Acne, also known as Acne Vulgaris, is a common skin condition generated by overproduction of oils in the skin. These oils combine with bacteria and dead skin cells, resulting in blocked pores which form blackheads, whiteheads, and various other types of pimples. …And yes, it can happen overnight. Acne is most common in teenagers and young adults.

What Actually Causes Acne?

Your hair follicles are connected to sebaceous glands. When these glands become overactive, they produce too much sebum, which is a waxy, oily substance that is meant to keep the skin naturally moisturized and supple. An excess of sebum can cause plugs within the follicles, mixing with dead skin cells, debris, and bacteria, resulting in the formation of pimples. Those with frequent acne breakouts often have oily or combination skin types, which are characteristic of overactive sebaceous glands. Excessive pimple formation overtime results in generation of acne scar tissue.

Acne breakouts can be triggered by a variety of lifestyle habits. Improper cleansing routines, bad dietary habits, smoking, alcohol, dusty environment can all be serious factors contributing to the formation of pimples.

Acne Scar Treatment

We have two approaches in the way we treat acne scars. These are:

Chemical Peels / HydraFacial:

  • Chemical Peel – We apply a solution of one of a variety of chemicals to your skin. The chemical causes the top layer of skin to peel off. When the skin grows back it is healthy and not inflamed.
  • HydraFacial is a procedure done with a machine to extract and remove impurities and dead skin cells. At the same time it replenishes vital nutrients including antioxidants, peptides, growth factors and hyaluronic acid. Thanks to the device’s unique delivery system, these ingredients penetrate the skin deeply and evenly.

We recommend at least 3 chemical peels before finishing everything off with a Hydrafacial procedure. This approach is non-invasive, perfect for mild acne and less noticeable acne scars.

If your acne scarring is more serious, you might consider the following approach:

  • PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) – Your plasma is chock full of factors that cause the growth of new skin. We draw a small amount of blood from you. We then centrifuge it, so that the plasma is separated from the red blood cells. The plasma is then applied to your face in one easy session. Its growth factors stimulate stem cells in your skin. In response, new collagen, blood vessels and elastin are released. A youthful appearance is generated and the acne scars disappear. The procedure takes no more than half an hour.
